About

I love food. Cooking, unfortunately, does not always love me back.

I’m Gem, and Bad Cook Files is basically where I keep track of everything I eat, try, discover, and occasionally attempt to cook myself.

I’ve always enjoyed eating more than I enjoy being in the kitchen. I can appreciate a really good meal, remember a restaurant because of one particular dish, get excited over something random I found at a grocery store, and plan part of a trip around what I want to eat. But ask me to recreate any of it at home and that is where things can get interesting.

Hence, the bad cook.

But this isn’t really a cooking blog, and I’m definitely not here to teach anyone how to cook. There are already people who are much better at that. Thankfully.

Bad Cook Files is more of my personal food diary. Some files will be about things I tried cooking. Some will be street food, cafés, restaurants, drinks, snacks, grocery finds, or food I came across while traveling. Sometimes it will be something fancy. Sometimes it will be something ridiculously simple that I just happened to like.

There isn’t one particular cuisine, price range, or kind of place I’m chasing. If I ate it and thought it was worth talking about, it can end up here.

I’ve been blogging for years, and food has always found its way into the things I write. Eventually, I figured it deserved its own space. Not because I suddenly became good at cooking, but because I realized you don’t have to know your way around a kitchen to genuinely love food.

And when my own cooking fails, well...

Thankfully, other people can cook.
